I just got a notification on my phone for the start of Cubs-Cardinals, and I immediately thought “Do I want to do this?” That’s a bad place to be as a fan, and for a team.
The daily sense that something new and unexpected will go wrong sucks the joy out of fandom FAST, but it has to be worse to be on a team that just keeps stepping on rakes that weren’t there the last time they looked. Obviously they are professionals, they are supposed to rise above it, blah, blah, blah. But at some point players surely must ask what e else can go wrong, and to whom?
