Christopher Morel’s Foot

If you’ve been wondering about why it seems like Christopher Morel is always fouling the ball off his front foot, you might want to look at this article by Matthew Trueblood at Baseball Prospectus.

The short story is that the problem is related to swing changes Morel has made this season and to his exceptional bat speed. Those changes have put him on the cusp of putting up really special numbers, save for some bad batted-ball luck and perhaps the negative side effect Trueblood identifies.

I’m not sure if this is the type of adjustment that a player can easily make in-season, but Morel’s impressive ability to keep adapting and honing his approach gives me hope.
