Sliding into First … Feet First?

After that great finish to the Cubs game I’m bouncing around MLB.TV – watched a wild finish in Milwaukee, where a batter’s interference on a third-strike wild pitch prevented the tying run from scoring! After that the Rays finished the 1-0 win to move the Cubs into first place.

I then jumped to the Dodgers-DBacks (should it be D’Backs?) Just in time to see Gabriel Moreno beat out an infield single by sliding feet-first into first base. Has there been some new analysis that suggests this is faster than running through the bag? It didn’t cost him but it sure looked goofy, and he looked like he started his slide late and really jammed his feet into the bag.

Is this a thing now, or did Moreno just lose his mind for a minute?
